This 40 hour course meets the requirements for Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator designation with the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners & Educators (AOGPE) and provides 30 hours of the Associate Level instruction. It is the first step in preparing teachers to use the OG approach in the classroom setting and allows teachers to use direct instruction to bring a multi-sensory, structured, and linguistic phonics-based approach into the mainstream classroom.
The Associate Level Part 1 instruction meets 30 of the 60 hours required for the Associate Level and provides instruction outside the classroom and for one-on-one instruction and remediation. Completion of the Associate Level Part 2 will lead to the Associate Level designation with the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners & Educators (AOGPE).

The curriculum will include:

• Dyslexia and Reading Research
• Knowledge of the OG Approach
• History of the English Language
• Structure, Scope and Sequence of Language Skills
• Handwriting
• Phonology and Phonological Awareness
• Sound-Symbol Association
• Syllable Instruction
• Spelling Patterns & Generalizations
• Elements of Multisensory Instruction
• Lesson Planning
• Handwriting – Manuscript and Cursive
• Reading Accuracy, Fluency and Comprehension
• AOGPE membership structure and requirements
